Last week's picture was taken at LaSalle Fish and Wildlife Area near Shelby Indiana. The preserve is a great place for fishing; hunting is also permitted in season and out of hunting season the area is a great place to view deer, herons, muskrat, beaver, swans, geese, and duck.
The wetlands harbor all sorts of frogs, dragonflies, and fauna. Wildflowers nurture the most butterflies that you will ever see concentrated in one place in the summertime.
This week's picture is below. Leave a guess as to where this was taken for a chance to win in the drawing on the first day of spring. Only one more mystery picture remains after this one. Spring draws near....

Last weeks picture was a nice fall scene taken at Tippecanoe State Park.

Put your guess in the comments and if your guess is correct, I'll put your name in the hat for the drawing. Out of all the correct guesses one lucky winner will be sent a set of Blue Heron Moon Note Cards. Here's this weeks picture:

Mystery Picture Saturday --- Win Free Note Cards
Last week's Mystery picture was taken at Kingsbury Fish and Wildlife Area. Kingsbury is a great place to view wildlife. There is abundant deer and a view of the Sandhill cranes in early spring.
Fishing runs hot and cold at this state area but a bicycle ride is always great through the area's country roads.
This week's mystery picture was taken in a state park that is situated along a river. Enter your guess in the comments and you just might find yourself the winner of a set of Blue Heron Moon Notecards in a drawing on the first day of spring.

Mystery Picture Saturday --Win free note cards
Last week's Mystery Picture was taken on the Little Calumet River in Gary, Indiana. There is abundant wildlife in this area of the river. Even though areas of the river are still be cleaned of pollution, we share the water with ducks, geese, herons, muskrat, and deer.
For several years, during the darkest days of my life so far, I stopped by this area of the river and watched the seasons change and the wildlife struggle to exist on this tiny piece of urban property.
We often take for granted tiny oasis' of nature in our urban areas and so they become neglected and abused. At the same time we give money and time to save the rainforests, while all the time we could be saving something we can touch right in our own backyards.
For a chance to win some Blue Heron Moon Notecards on the first day of spring name the park that the picture below was taken. The week's clue is the place is in the Northern fourth of Indiana. Good Luck.

Mystery Picture Saturday --Chance to win free note cards
Last week's mystery picture was taken at the Dunes National Lakeshore. Chicago is just discernible along the horizon. Even in the days before Northwest Indiana had any towns or cities to speak of, there were stories told about the lights of Chicago glowing from across the lake.
Below is this week's mystery picture. Leave me your guess, in the comments, of where in Indiana you think this picture was taken. All correct guesses will be entered into a drawing on the first day of spring. The winner will receive a free set of Blue Heron Moon Notecards.

Mystery Picture Saturday--Win some Notecards!
Last week's mystery picture was taken at Sunset Farm County Park in Porter County Indiana. The goats have recently taken up residence at the park and are enjoying the winter crowd of people snowshoeing, skiing, and running.
The goats particularly enjoy the parade of dogs walking their people past their pen.
This week's mystery picture is a little more difficult, so a clue is included: This is also in a county park in the Northwest corner of Indiana. Leave a guess in the comments and you just might win the Blue Heron Moon Notecard set drawing on the first day of spring. Good luck!

Mystery Picture Saturday --Chance to win free note cards
Last week's mystery picture was taken at Oxbow Park, maintained by the City of Hammond, Indiana. Oxbow is a jewel of a park within city limits; full of wildlife--ducks, geese, herons, muskrats and deer all call the park home.
If number of fisher-people is any indication of the fishing at Oxbow; the fishing should be good. The Oxbow is caused by a bend in the Little Calumet River into the park perimeter. The Oxbow creates a wetland; perfect habitat for the wildlife that frequent the park.
This week's mystery picture is taken at one of my favorite places to view wildlife and fish in Indiana. Add your guess of where in Indiana the picture was taken into the comments section to be included in the Blue Heron Moon notecard drawing on the first day of spring:

Mystery Picture Saturday --Chance to win free note cards
The bird in the picture is fishing at Hovey Lake in Indiana. I like to think Indiana is a Christmas stocking chock full of good surprises. When I was young, Mom would put a really nice surprise in the toe of our Christmas stocking. Hovey Lake is in Indiana's toe.
The lake is created by the wetlands that occur when the Wabash and the Ohio Rivers come together to make Indiana's southwest border. This is a very special place with its very own kind of beauty and one of the prettiest areas in the world.
There's something really magical when two great rivers come together; a sense of peace perfades the area that is full of wildlife, swamps, and water. Herons, egrets, frogs and turtles, beaver, and abundant wildflowers all share the area. What a treasure in Indiana's toe!
This week's Mystery Picture is in the heart of one of Indiana's metropolitan areas. Where do you think the picture was taken? Put your guess in the comments and you may win a set of Blue Heron Moon Note Cards in our first day of spring contest.

Mystery Picture Saturday --Chance to win free note cards
Last week's mystery picture was of one of my favorite places in Harmonie State Park.
Harmonie State Park has some of the best trails of all the Indiana parks. Trails follow a small stream that carries tiny fish directly into the Wabash.
The park protects a delicate ecosystem not found elsewhere in Indiana; it feels like a different world.
The park is totally transformed from one season to another. There are delicate wildflowers underneath the trees and tucked into ravines in the spring. In the summer the sunlight filtering down through the trees feels as if it comes directly down from the angels in heaven.
And then there is early fall, my favorite time; when the butterflies congregate around the nature center, the plums and persimmons fall wild from the trees, and you just might catch the biggest fish you ever caught while fishing from the bank of the Wabash in the center of the park.
This week's mystery picture is of an Indiana immigrant:
Put your guess of where in Indiana this picture was taken in the comments. All correct guesses go into a hat for a chance to win some Blue Heron Moon Notecards when the first day of spring gets here.

Mystery Picture Saturday --Chance to win free note cards
Last week's mystery picture was Turkey Run State Park in Parke County Indiana. The picture was taken in Turkey Run Hollow directly across the suspension bridge that is behind the lodge.
Turkey Run State Park is one Indiana's prettiest parks, especially in the fall. Parke County has many covered bridges and hosts the Covered Bridge Festival every October that attracts thousands of people from all over the country to sample hoosier hospitality.
I recommend the park in early spring, just as the wildflowers start to bloom, a couple of weeks before the trees get their leaves.
To be included in a free drawing to win Blue Heron Moon Notecards on the first day of spring leave your guess on where in Indiana the following picture was taken in the comments:

Mystery Picture Saturday --Chance to win free note cards
Since it's winter time in Northern Indiana, with the days getting shorter and colder, I'm changing things in the blog a bit.
On Fridays over the winter I'll be offering a review of a book on nature that I recommend for winter evening reading. These are can't miss books that are so good you'll have to rush out and read them, if you truly love nature.
On Saturdays I will be posting a picture of a place somewhere in Indiana. Everyone is welcome to identify the picture and post to the comments where in Indiana the picture was taken. I will identify the previous week's picture on Saturday when I post a new picture of the week. On the first day of spring I will put all the correct answers in a hat and will send the winner that I pull out of the hat a set of Blue Heron Moon Note cards from my Etsy shop.
Here is the first mystery picture. It is an easy one:
Post your answer in the comments before Saturday November 13th for a chance to win the note cards. Good Luck!
