From the Bicycle Trail

The rails to trails program has left a wonderland of opportunities to view wildlife in urban areas. This was the far off view from one bike trail this past weekend when we were enjoying a bit of spring.

That bit of spring is gone today, however, and we've got a bit of winter white stuff back this morning.

Heron with a Hat

This young heron tried its usual behavior of freezing with bill pointed up to the sky, acting like a shoreline weed as I walked up. When that didn't work, it flew into a nearby tree and tried to blend in as a branch. When that didn't work, he raised all the feathers on his head and showed me his hat. And I left it at that.

The Lonely Heron

THINK, the ragged turf-boy urges
O’er the dusty road his asses;
Think, on the seashore for the lonely
Heron wings along the sand.
Think, in woodland under oak-boughs
Now the streaming sunbeam passes:
And bethink thee thou art servant
To the same all-moving hand.

Fishing Buddy

This guy was my fishing buddy a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately he didn't appreciate me as much as I appreciated him. He ended up high up in a tree and then flew off leaving all the fishing to me.
